Prime Consulting International is recruiting a short term national Dairy expert with significant research experience.
The consultant will work closely with the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MFL) to collate, assess and analyze available data on dairy cattle populations and performance in Zambia and to compile an inventory of GHG emissions from dairy cattle using the IPCC Tier 2 method.
As a member of the inventory core team, specific tasks for the Consultant include:
a) Participate in training on the IPCC Tier 2 GHG inventory method for cattle;
b) Identify, obtain and analyze data on dairy cattle populations;
c) Through consultation with stakeholders, decide the dairy cattle sub-categories for the inventory on the basis of available data;
d) Identify, obtain and analyze data on dairy cattle characteristics and performance;
e) Compile the inventory using population and animal performance data in accordance with the sub-categories agreed and document the data sources, methods and assumptions used;
f) Present the data sources, assumptions and methods used to stakeholders and reviewers;
g) Respond to results of quality control, quality assurance and national review activities;
h) Identify priority improvements in the GHG inventory.
Applicant requirements:
a) At least 5 years’ experience in research on livestock (specifically dairy) production in Zambia
b) A Masters, or preferably a PhD in livestock science or related subjects
c) Familiar with existing scientific literature and projects on dairy in Zambia
d) Understanding of livestock nutrition
e) Familiarity with staff and operations of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock;
f) Interest in climate change and cattle GHG emissions.
